Training

EUROCONTROL provides ATM-related training through its Institute of Air Navigation Services (IANS) in Luxembourg. The Institute provides taught courses in a classroom environment where subjects can be treated in depth. It also provides web-based general awareness training through EUROCONTROL's Training Zone.

The Environment Domain and IANS have identified a substantial stakeholder need to provide ATM personnel with education and awareness on aviation environmental matters. Of course, the needs of the individual vary, with some personnel only requiring a broad overview of the relevant issues, whereas others may need dedicated training. Consequently, EUROCONTROL offers the following environmental awareness training with the intention of meeting most needs of most ATM personnel:
  • Web-based e-Learning aviation environment awareness package of no more than one hour's duration. This is available to the general public through the Environment web site of EUROCONTROL.

  • A one-hour taught module on aviation environment issues is included by IANS in relevant ATM classroom training, such as Airspace Management, Air Traffic Flow Management, Navigation, GNSS, Future ATM Concepts etc. This draws on the material in the e-Learning package.

  • A 3-5 day in-depth taught course for 10-15 "environmental officers". This is targeted at those personnel in ATM and other aviation organisations who have (or will soon have) specific environmental responsibilities ranging from policy and strategy through to operations. This is offered by IANS at least twice each year as part of its standard ATM training.
