For EUROCONTROL Environmental/Sustainability Policy is set at Organisation level by our Provisional Council, which is the decision making body of our Member States. This has been aligned with other relevant policies from bodies such as the European Commission (EC), the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and United Nations (UN)- International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The Agency is tasked with interpreting this policy into internal activities, and ultimately as coordinated actions by ATM operational stakeholders.
This potential to influence the decisions and actions of ATM stakeholders is perhaps the most significant impact that EUROCONTROL may have on the sustainability effects of European ATM. Thus, the Agency has to ensure:
- our environmental policy is adequately supported by implementation strategies that are understood by all Agency personnel;
- we work effectively with stakeholders on ATM sustainability issues to ensure we focus on common priorities;
- that all areas of the Agency understand and accept their sustainability responsibilities, incorporating these into decision making and activities;
- we make use of adequate support resources such as funding, expertise, tools and environmental management systems to ensure delivery of these aims;
- transparency in our progress in achieving Policy;
- the required culture change.
