The SOURDINE II project
The EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre (EEC) was a participant in the SOURDINE II project, which is a component of the European Commission's Fifth Framework Programme (FP5).

SOURDINE is an ancronym for Study of Optimisation procedURes for Decreasing the Impact of NoisE II.

The mission

The mission of SOURDINE is the reduction of the environmental impact (noise and emissions) of aviation in the vicinity of airports through the development of new approach and departure procedures.

The objectives

The objectives of the SOURDINE II project were to produce the following results:
  • an implementation strategy for advanced environmentally-friendly approach and departure procedures and supporting aircraft/ATC systems,
  • a validation methodology for procedure/system development, and
  • improved noise modelling tools for the validation of new procedures with respect to noise.
