The EEC is a Participant in the "NUP2+" Project

The EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre (EEC) is a participant in the NUP2+ project, which is a component of the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) programme of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and Transport.

NUP is the abbreviation for "NEAN Update Programme", NEAN is the abbreviation for "North European ADS-B Network", and ADS-B is the abbreviation for "automatic dependent surveillance - broadcast".

Project objective

The NUP2+ project is a follow on from the preceding TEN-T NEAN and NUP projects, which were conducted between 1995 and 2005.

The NUP2+ project focuses on validating a set of applications using ADS-B and 4D trajectory data in live trials; the desired end result is the operational introduction of the applications.

A high-level objective is to assess whether the selected applications have the potential to provide operational, business, and safety benefits. The NUP2+ project will provide a seamless path towards large-scale validation of the selected applications in European airspace.

The NUP2+ project also provides input to the on-going harmonisation of ADS-B usage in Europe (the European Commission and EUROCONTROL) and globally (the Requirements Focus Group) not only on operational and technical aspects but also by indicating user acceptance from a cost/ benefit perspective.
