The EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre (EEC) is a participant in the EMMA 2 project, which is the second phase of the EMMA project and a component of the European Commission's 6th Framework programme.
EMMA is shorthand for "European Airport Movement Managed by A-SMGCS" (where A-SMGCS is the "Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System").

The main objectives of the EMMA 2 project are:
- to set the A-SMGCS standards for Europe;
- to define the A-SMGCS system in tems of operations, technology, and regulations;
- to validate A-SMGCS equipment and procedures; and
- to create a roadmap for the implementation of the A-SMGCS system.
