EMMA

The world-wide accepted concept, known under the term A-SMGCS (Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System), will be converted into operational prototype systems at three airports (namely Prague, Toulouse and Malpensa) by using existing products and will focus on the surveillance and alerting level 1 and 2 to ensure a mature status for continuation of the highest A-SMGCS implementation levels (Planning and Guidance).

Description

The EMMA (European Airport Movement Management by A-SMGCS) project is a project of the 6th Framework program of the European Commission (EC). In a two phase approach, the EMMA project will first consolidate the surveillance and conflict alert functions, and, in the successor project of the second call, will focus on advanced onboard support to pilots and planning support to controllers.
  HTML The EMMA 2 project
Extensive operational live trials proving the usefulness and completeness of the operational and technical requirements frame will form the basis for efficient A-SMGCS production and implementation throughout Europe in a time to market approach. The EMMA project will provide an opportunity for EATM concepts and procedures to form basis for important trials and pre-implementation experiments. The projects will assure that the EC activities and the EATM activities will aim towards a uniform application of the A-SMGCS concept in Europe. Agreement on the distribution of work has been achieved within the consortium. The EUROCONTROL participation will mainly be focused on three items, namely:
  • Transfer and further development of the operational concept and procedures developed within EATMP;
  • Development of functionality and Human Machine Interface for the planning and alerting support to controllers together with industry partners; and
  • Support to the validation of the procedures and technical applications, development of conclusions and dissemination of results.
