MTV SESAR 2020 operational concept validation

SESAR 2020 concept validation results enable stakeholders to make strategic investment decisions.
EUROCONTROL's Experimental Centre (EEC) plays a leading role in research and development (R&D) activities in support of the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) programme launched in 2005.

SESAR's 2020 operational concept represents a major shift from an airspace-based to a shared, trajectory-based (4-D) ATM system.

In the future pan-European ATM environment, airborne and ground elements are viewed as a single integrated ATM system serving the business needs of all airspace users.

The EEC's Mid-Term Validation (MTV) programme is aligned to assess the performance of the SESAR 2020 operational concept against target goals.

The MTV programme provides a consolidated view of both the technical (performance, operability) and management aspects of EEC's research for the SESAR mid-term concept.

The MTV programme is focused on:

SESAR consortium [external web site; opens in new window]

• VALIDATING the performance of the SESAR 2020 operational concept

• BUILDING a framework for validation activities

• CONSOLIDATING RESULTS to assess the performance of the SESAR 2020 operational target goals

The EEC's MTV programme integrates activities from projects such as Episode 3 (EP3) - a major ATM research project in the EC's Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
Episode 3 [external web site; opens in new window]
Episode 3 is Europe's largest FP6 ATM research project
MTV programme validation focuses on elements of the SESAR operational concept for implementation by 2020 during the transition to a 4-D business trajectory.

The ultimate goal of the MTV programme is to support SESAR in the development of a fully integrated and validated operational concept for the future European ATM System defined in the SESAR Master Plan.

EEC's MTV programme is supported by collaborative research networks

EEC's MTV programme for SESAR 2020 operational concept validation is designed to deliver consolidated results for SESAR 2020 stakeholders. For an MTV OVERVIEW of the research context, clients, and deliverables see here.

Key MTV programme activities are supported by the network research areas described here. . .

EUROCONTROL has developed a navigator linking some SESAR Definition Phase documents from the SESAR Master Plan with EPISODE 3 key components.

The Windows Help Format file is downloadable [EP3 web site], and must be run on a hard drive (not a shared drive) from your desktop. In case of a display problem, open the properties of the file (right click) and "unblock" it (an option at the bottom of the properties window).
