GAES

Important political decisions based on environmental requirements might have an impact on the aviation, ATC, and ATM system, e.g. environmental route charges and landing fees, flight level restrictions, tax on aviation fuel etc. The GAES (Global Aviation Emissions Studies) project aims to support the decision making process with reliable information to build a solid base for such decisions.

Description

Systematic emission studies shall test the potential environmental impact or benefit of the different programme elements of EATMP and ATM 2000+ aiming to estimate the complete environmental potential of those programmes. In addition, emission analysis shall become a systematic element to the validation of any EUROCONTROL/EEC ATM/ATM concept or research project.

Where tools, required to do those studies, are not available, they will be developed in the context of this project. As soon as such developed tools become mature, they shall be made available to the public and maintained externally. The maintenance cost of those external tools are financed fully out of user licenses etc.

Context

Important political decisions on european and international level based on environmental requirements and political decisions driven by those requirements might impact on the aviation, ATC and ATM system, e.g. environmental route charges and landing fees, flight level restrictions, tax on aviation fuel etc.

Objectives

Global Aviation Emission Studies is a roof project including all activities and projects managed in the past separately in the area of Global Emission Studies for the Business Area SEE.
The goal of the the roof project is to facilitate the management process and to reduce unnecessary administrational overhead.
This project aims to support the environmental discussion and the political decision making process in the aviation and specifically the ATC/ATM domain with reliable information to help to build a solid base for such decisions.

Approach

Systematic emission studies shall test the potential environmental impact or benefit of the different programme elements of EATMP and ATM 2000+ aiming to estimate the complete environmental potential of those programmes.
In addition, emission analysis shall become a systematic element to the validation of any EUROCONTROL/EEC ATM/ATM concept or research project.

Where tools, required to do those studies, are not available, they will be developed in the context of this project. As soon as such developed tools become mature, they shall be made available to the public and maintained externally. The maintenance cost of those external tools are financed fully out of user licenses etc.

Expected Results
