EONS

EONS is EUROCONTROL's Open and Generic Graphic System.

Description

EONS is the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) for CWPs (Controller Working Positions).

Context

EONS is a generic software environment to build ATC Working Positions. In addition to its GUI (Graphical User Interface) functionalities, EONS also provides the appropriate, CORBA-based interfaces to integrate ATC positions in the large CWP and ESCAPE context.

Objectives

EONS is based on the ODS Toolbox, which is a development environment for building and customising highly dynamic operational display systems.

Approach

GUIs developped with it can be used in several application domains where dynamic objects have to be visualised, in particular in the following domains:
  • Air Traffic Control (ATC);
  • Vessel Traffic Control (VTC);
  • Public Transport;
  • Network Management and Control;
  • Command and Control Centres; and
  • Simulation and Visualisation of Complex Systems.
In its principles and architecture, EONS is the same as the ODS Toolbox. However, EONS implements a rather thick layer on the top of the ODS Toolbox, extending it with modified and enhanced object class trees, event and object management system, utility functions, more complex, ATC-specific building blocks, and last, but by no means least, with integration mechanisms in the ESCAPE context.
