The Surveillance Division facilitates, co-ordinates and monitors the development of safe, effective and efficient surveillance solutions that will support the evolution of future ATM systems.
The Division covers all aspects of Surveillance from Aircraft Transponders through Sensors to Radar Data Processing systems. It covers, PSR, SSR, SSR Mode S, ADS-B, ADS-C, MLAT, WAM, RMCDE/RRR, ASTERIX, ARTAS and SASS-C.

The Division is divided into 3 sections:
- Mode S Programme; responsible for the introduction of Elementary and Enhanced SSR Mode S, and specific TCAS II performance enhancements.
- Surveillance Products and Services; responsible for the provision of opertaional support services for ARTAS, RMCDE and SASS-C.
- Surveillance Domain; responsible for Strategy, Standards, Architecture and the development of new and innovative surveillance techniques.

The main business goals of the Surveillance Division are to:
- Enable the rationalisation, harmonisation and standardisation of surveillance infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain surveillance architecture and standards, including ASTERIX.
- Execute, maintain and improve the Mode S II Code Allocation process.
- Employ studies to assist in the development and validation of promising/innovative techniques.
- Progress the Mode S implementation programme, including specific TCAS II performance enhancements
- Provide support to CASCADE and the Airport Operations Programme.
- Draft Implementation Rules and Community Specifications on behalf of the European commission.
- Provide high quality and responsive maintenance and support systems for ARTAS, RMCDE and SASS-C.
