Seen from a large array of perspectives, the Very Light Jet (VLJ) category has considerable potential and will likely be an extremely dynamic segment of the private and business jet market in the very next years.
In an effort to gain a strategic overview of the possible impact the VLJs might have on the European ATM, EUROCONTROL (European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation) - organised on 4th May 2007 (EUROPA Conference Room, EUROCONTROL HQ, Brussels) a Very Light Jet (VLJ) Workshop.
This Workshop was attended by more than 100 representatives of States, Regulators, ANSPs, Airport Operators, Commercial Aircraft Operators, GA, Aviation press and VLJ Manufacturers.
The EUROCONTROL VLJ Workshop advanced the VLJ dialogue one step further and provided first hand information on the current VLJ projects: their performance/development status/timeframe & target market, provided VLJ commercial feasibility and business models from a European perspective, initiated the dialogue on the impact of VLJ operations on European airspace and airports and discussed issues related to the VLJ regulation and charging.
Experts from key companies and organisations (Cessna, Embraer, ETIRC Aviation, Jetbird, EBAA, EPATS Project, JAA, EASA and EUROCONTROL) directly involved with VLJ manufacturing, commercialisation, regulation and operation delivered presentations and provided key answers in this EUROCONTROL VLJ Workshop leading a relevant and needed dialogue.
Concluding on the VLJ Workshop discussions, Mr. Alex HENDRIKS - Deputy Director ATM Strategies EUROCONTROL and Chairman of the VLJ Workshop - stated that EUROCONTROL is, as a result of the positive discussions in the VLJ Workshop, launching a VLJ Integration Platform (VIP) aiming at providing a point of discussions and reference for all those interested in the VLJ development.
