The CRDS aims at becoming the focal point for ATM R&D in central Europe, assisting in the future development of the CEATS UAC and contributing to both the European Air Traffic Management Programme (EATMP) and the European ATM R&D Programme.
These R&D activities will be in line with strategic research programmes at European level, i.e EATM, European Commission RTD Framework Programmes and TEN-T,.derived from the European ATM Masterplan. They will be fully co-ordinated with the EATM Research Directorate, ensuring consistency and complementarity.
To achieve this objective the CRDS will actively develop partnerships with the EUROCONTROL Research Centre, as well as with other existing and emerging national and academic ATM R&D Centres.
These partnerships will aim at maximising the benefits by effective use of combined resources and by minimising overlap in existing and future work programmes.

Although the strategic principles for the implementation and operation of the C.UAC have been defined in the CEATS Agreement several important issues affecting the business case of CEATS need further analysis and study. Through its contacts with experts from other relevant EUROCONTROL units, ANSPs and regional research centres and universities, the CRDS will provide assistance in addressing the pending issues.
