About SESAR
The SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) programme is building the future European air traffic management system.
It is the technological and operational dimension of the Single European Sky (SES) initiative to meet future airspace capacity and safety needs.
As a co-founding member of the SESAR Joint Undertaking together with the European Commission, EUROCONTROL plays a key role in all SESAR work packages.

Our contribution to the SESAR programme
We are actively contributing to SESAR in the following areas of activity:

ATM master plan and system view
Leading R&D transversal activities (WP 16) and Master Plan maintenance (WP C) and providing guidance for Target Concept and Architecture maintenance (WP B)

ATM operations and systems validation
Helping to refine SESAR target concept elements through operational and technical work packages for EnRoute/TMA (WP 4 - WP 5 - WP 10) and Airport/aerodrome ATC (WP 6 - WP 12)

Network Management operations and systems validation
Helping to refine Network Management aspects of the SESAR target concept with the same approach as for ATM components (WP 7 - WP 13)

System-wide information management (SWIM)
Playing a key role in the work packages on information management (WP 8) and information architecture (WP 14)

Aircraft and non-avionics CNS systems
Focusing on the aircraft system (WP 9) and non-avionics elements (WP 15)

Validation infrastructure adaptation and integration
In line with European operational concept validation methodologies (E-OCVM)

Long-term and innovative research
Developing research activities that pool expertise from the European research community (WP E)

Coordination of military contribution
Ensuring interoperability between systems and the full integration of military requirements within SESAR
