System-Wide Information Management

SWIM

EUROCONTROL contributes to SESAR information management work packages to establish the framework for defining seamless information interchange between all providers and users of shared ATM information.

Access by all air and ground ATM actors to the same up-to-date information will improve their situation awareness and the quality of their decisions. Improved sharing of ATM information will be performed through the delivery of  the ‘Aviation Intranet’ concept.

This area covers SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) Work Packages 8 (Information Management) and 14 (SWIM technical architecture).

Information management

This task defines and refines the information view of the ATM architecture framework, the information management concepts and the ATM information reference model (AIRM) data model and information services reference model (ISRM).

WP8 - Information management

System-Wide Information management technical architecture

EUROCONTROL’s overall objectives in this activity include:

  • alignment and transition of the SWIM-SUIT (system wide information management-supported by innovative technologies) project activities to SESAR;
  • design of the SWIM solution including middleware, security and supervision aspects;
  • development of prototypes and their validation;
  • ensuring that the SWIM design addresses the civil-military and airspace users' information-sharing needs.

SWIM validation will be translated in the following phased deliveries:

  1. design and verification of the SWIM infrastructure for ATC-to-ATC exchanges of flight objects, for AIS and for business-to-business/NOP and basic security using PENS (pan-European network service);
  2. design and verification of the SWIM infrastructure for ATFM and air/ground exchanges of flight objects and for all ground-ground exchanges and of the full security and discovery;
  3. design and verification of the SWIM infrastructure for all air-ground exchanges.
