A step-by-step selection procedure

The selection procedure takes place in four steps, as described in the tabs below.

Selection of applications

For each competition, a Selection Committee is appointed. The Selection Committee usually consists of five members. The Selection Committee is involved in the CV screening, interviews and the decision phases.

Two weeks after the closing date, the Selection Committee meets for an initial assessment of the information given in the candidates’ applications. At this stage the most suitable candidates are shortlisted in order of merit.

EUROCONTROL then calls some or all of the shortlisted candidates to participate in further assessment either through interviews and/or tests.

Please be informed that the names of the Selection Committee members are strictly confidential and can not be communicated.

Interviews

The interviews are conducted in panel. A Selection Committee interviews the shortlisted candidates from the previous phase.

The interviews usually take place where the job is located.

The interview will usually last for approximately one hour. At the end of the formal part of the interview, the interview panel will give candidates the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about the job.

Candidates invited for tests or an interview by EUROCONTROL are asked to come with the following documents:

  • original and copy of ID card or passport;
  • travel expenses for reimbursement.

Tests and assessment centre

Job-related or aptitude tests

For some competitions, candidates may be asked to perform job-related or aptitude tests.

EUROCONTROL employs professional and up-to-date assessment methods. The job-related tests are developed in house. The other test materials are from Hudson De Witte & Morel.

If you are participating in the final selection procedure you can request more information from EUROCONTROL on its assessment methods.

Assessment centre tests

Candidates invited to undergo assessment centre tests with Hudson De Witte & Morel. Most assessment centre tests last about one day.

Assessment centre tests are a method of assessing human abilities, mainly on the basis of observation of behaviour. They involve a process in which you are evaluated individually by several assessors, who use a set of techniques for this purpose.

Assessment centre tests involve various practical simulations, all of which take place in the context of a fictitious business, which becomes your "real world" for the duration of the evaluation.

In these simulations you are confronted with situations connected with your future post (for example a problem, a new opportunity, etc.) which you must deal with as you think best on the basis of your experience. During this time, you will be observed by trained and experienced assessors, who apply a very strict method in order to examine various abilities determined in advance.

Notification of results and feedback

Feedback is only given to those candidates who have been at least invited to interview. This one should be requested within 1 month as of the date of the notification.

Candidates invited to an assessment centre will also have the opportunity to receive feedback about it.

The notification of results is done by phone or email. Candidates receive a notification about their suitability after each phase of the selection procedure.
