ICAO Flight Planning modifications for 2012 - Testing
Are you ready for ICAO 2012 flight plan changes?
In preparation for the ICAO flight planning changes foreseen in 2012, a comprehensive testing package is available to our stakeholders.
A comprehensive description of the testing facilities is provided in the following document:
Registration process for participation in the on-line (OPT) test sessions is open.
The Registration Forms (for on-line testing) for the Flight Plan Originators and for the ATC Unit are available here:
- Registration Form for 2012 Operational Evaluation (OPT) - FLIGHT PLAN ORIGINATOR (doc)
- Registration Form for 2012 Operational Evaluation (OPT) - ATC UNIT (doc)
There are three main testing facilities or activities provided via the Network Manager
1. Flight Plan (FPL) Testing
The flight plan validation system (IFPUV) is a web based function available publicly via this web site that already allows today New format FPLs, as well as Old (current) format, to be tested.
It is worth noting that although the IFPUV requires a valid route within Europe in order to declare the submitted FPL ‘valid’ almost all 2012 changes are syntax related and as syntax errors are the first to be reported by IFPUV a valid route, even a route within the EUR area, is not necessary to test the validity of a New format FPL. The system will not provide a route related error unless the syntax is correct. This means the IFPUV can be used by aircraft operators worldwide to validate their New format FPLs against the European IFPS system, regardless of the Dept, Dest and route indicated within the individual FPLs.
The IFPUV can also be used to help in the creation of New format test data to assist ATC units in creating a set of valid test flight plans applicable to their airspace.
2. Static Testing
Static testing involves the sharing of input/output test data in the format of a file delivered via e-mail. Messages are processed off-line in batch mode and results provided also via return e-mail with file attachment. See ‘EUR 2012 Test Plan’ document above for details.
Aircraft Operators are invited to provide sample New format flight planning messages to the CFMU Test Team (see Contacts) for validation.
ATC Units and/or software providers are invited to make use of a set of valid New format test data available from the CFMU Test Team (see Contacts below).
3. On-Line Testing (OPT)
Pre-planned (OPT) test sessions in real time via normal networks using a dedicated CFMU test platform. An OPT test session may include a pre-determined test scenario. Participation is open to both Aircraft Operators and ATC units but strictly controlled via the submission of an application form. See ‘EUR 2012 Test Plan’ document above for details.
