Our role
EUROCONTROL supports its Member States to achieve safe, efficient and environmentally-friendly air traffic operations across the whole of the European region.
We play a pivotal role in Europe by working together with all aviation partners to deliver a Single European Sky that will help to meet the safety, capacity and performance challenges of European aviation in the 21st century.
Our role is unique in Europe because:
- we are the only organisation where EU and non-EU Member States come together to discuss Single European Sky implementation.
- we provide the technical expertise for building the Single European Sky.
- we are a unique platform for civil-military coordination, building on decades of strong military involvement in our activities.
- we have a key role not only in managing day-to-day operations of the European air traffic management (ATM) network, but also in managing crisis situations.
- we provide public service functions that only reap their full benefits if organised at a pan-European level, such as the collection of route charges.
