AIS/airspace data management

Two key data management tools are provided by EUROCONTROL to help stakeholders obtain a clear understanding of the European aviation network: the European AIS Database (EAD) and the Network Operations Plan (NOP).

Aeronautical data management and distribution efforts are currently based on these two systems. They are the essential building blocks for network information management and sharing.

They also help the aviation community to achieve a common situational awareness of what is happening within the aviation network.

European AIS Database (EAD)

The European Aeronautical Information System (AIS) Database (EAD), the largest system of its type, can be accessed by our stakeholders and partners.

It offers instant access to the most up-to-date publications and digital aeronautical information from the ECAC area as well as Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and Pre-flight Information Bulletins (PIBs) from around the world.

Network Operations Plan

The NM Network Operations Plan (NOP) consolidates interdependent data including flight intentions, status of airspace, capacity, airport data and meteorological forecasts.

It is updated with the current traffic situation and real-time flow and capacity management. NOP is supported by information services such as:

  • the NOP portal, for consultation by all operational staff, and,
  • B2B Web services, for an automated treatment of the NOP Information by the stakeholders’ systems.

Aeronautical Information Management

Under the umbrella of the pan-European system design approach, the ATM Architecture & Information Management activities in EUROCONTROL focus on the development and support to implementation of a digital, reliable and cost-efficient information environment for the whole of ATM. The overall objective is the establishment of a network-centric information environment in Europe, also known as System Wide Information Management (SWIM).
