About FABEC

Connecting the skies

In order to respond to the needs and future challenges of the air transport industry, MUAC and its partners are currently working on the creation of a functional airspace block, "FAB Europe Central" (FABEC), with the objective of implementing multinational management of the airspace of six countries: Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The idea of reorganising national airspace portions into wider blocks, according to operational needs, was developed in the Single European Sky (SES) first legislative package, and further enchanced in the SES second package, which provides that functional airspace blocks should be in place by December 2012.

FABEC airspace accounts for 55% of all European traffic and is located above or close to the major European airports.

The civil FABEC air navigation service providers employ a total of 17,700 people, of whom 5,400 are air traffic controllers.
