The increased demand for airspace from all airspace users is expected to continue. Air transport movements are forecast to grow by about 80% by 2015 as compared with 2004 figures (source STATFOR). The existing Airspace and Navigation systems in Europe are unlikely to cope with such demand. There is, therefore, continued pressure to upgrade the capacity of the European Airspace and Navigation systems to permit more en-route and terminal airspace capacity and to facilitate the flexible and equitable use of airspace.

Airspace Organisation & Management Objectives |
The Airspace Organisation & Management objectives are to develop, co-ordinate and monitor the operational changes needed to optimise the organisation and use of airspace required for the realisation of the Single European Sky (SES) through the implementation of a cohesive set of incremental improvements to the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) airspace structure, management and use. The Airspace Organisation & Management scope covers all aspects of airspace management and Air Traffic Services (ATS) route network activities including those related to civil-military co-operation and co-ordination.

As far as Navigation is concernet, the main objective is to provide a harmonised and integrated common framework which will allow a cost-effective, customer oriented evolution of the European Air Navigation System during the period 2000-2015. The evolution is described in the Navigation Strategy in terms of performance, functionality and corresponding infrastructure, taking due account of the principle of global interoperability.
